What is the reason why pancreatic cancer patients often experience abdominal distension

Due to unreasonable diet and lifestyle habits, the incidence of pancreatic cancer in my country is increasing. Abdominal distension is one of the common symptoms of pancreatic cancer. Frequent attacks seriously affect the quality of life of patients. There are five main reasons for this.

1. Bad eating habits

Most pancreatic cancer patients have the habit of overeating. Irregular eating habits lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction and reduced stomach digestion function, causing pancreatic cancer patients to experience abdominal distension and difficulty in digesting food after eating, accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain.

2. Psychological factors

If the patient has a low psychological tolerance and is afraid of cancer, it may cause psychological burdens, including tension, anxiety, depression, pessimism, etc. Depression can lead to stagnation of liver qi and discomfort of the spleen and stomach, which can easily cause abdominal distension, belching, abdominal pain and other symptoms.

3. Functional factors

Pancreatic cancer surgery is an abdominal surgery, which may cause abdominal discomfort for a period of time, delayed gastric emptying syndrome, also known as postoperative gastric weakness, which are all functional and collectively referred to as gastric paralysis. The main manifestations are upper abdominal fullness, nausea, and vomiting 4 to 8 days or 2 to 3 weeks after surgery.

4. Malnutrition

If the patient has poor physical fitness and suffers from hypoproteinemia, malnutrition or even anemia before surgery, it may lead to ascites and abdominal distension after pancreatic cancer surgery.

5. Obstruction of gas discharge in the gastrointestinal tract

In the early postoperative period, the patient's intestinal motility is weakened or disappears, and the blood circulation in the intestinal wall is disturbed, which affects the absorption of gas in the intestinal cavity. The gas in the intestinal cavity cannot be discharged from the body, thus causing abdominal distension.
