It has been proven that human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in the reproductive tract is closely related to cervical cancer. In the 1980s, foreign scholars found that HPV-DNA could be detected in 99.7% of tumors, and HPV-negative people would hardly develop cervical cancer. Later, some scholars even believed that preventing HPV infection could prevent cervical cancer, and that without HPV infection, cervical cancer would not occur. Professor Hausen, a German scholar and winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, creatively pointed out that HPV can cause cervical cancer. In his research, he found that HPV-DNA can exist in a non-replicating state in tumors. He also discovered that HPV is a heterogeneous family of viruses, only a few of which are carcinogenic. After more than 10 years of research, he discovered a new type of oncogenic virus, HPV16, in cervical biopsies. Subsequently, HPV types 16 and 18 were detected in about 70% of cervical cancer biopsies worldwide. His research results have enabled people to have a deeper understanding of HPV infection and cancer occurrence, and have played an amazing role in preventing the occurrence of cervical cancer. |
