How to prevent coccidiosis?

Many people don’t know what coccidiosis is. In fact, this disease generally occurs in poultry. It is a parasitic disease. Parasites live in the bodies of poultry, causing a lot of harm. It is reported that there are many ways to prevent coccidiosis. The most common is dietary transmission. For coccidiosis in poultry diseases, the best way to deal with it is to take preventive measures. The detailed prevention methods are as follows.

How to prevent coccidiosis?

①Cut off the transmission route of chicken coccidiosis. Isolate sick chickens from healthy chickens, raise and treat them in separate groups to prevent the disease from spreading. Immediately remove feces and wet bedding, disinfect pens, feeding utensils and utensils with 20% lime water, and disinfect personnel, vehicles and related utensils entering and leaving the farm; pile up feces and ferment; maintain appropriate temperature and humidity in the chicken house, reduce stocking density, and ensure good ventilation.

② Feed more green feed rich in vitamins, and add vitamin A, vitamin K and vitamin C to the feed to enhance the immune function of the chickens and improve the body's tolerance to various stresses. At the same time, reducing the content of bran and calcium carbonate in the feed can reduce the substances necessary for the development of coccidia and prevent the growth of coccidia.

③ Add 3-5g of chlorpheniramine to the feed and mix it with the feed for 5 consecutive days; add 500-600mg/kg of sulfamethoxazole to the feed and drinking water for 5 consecutive days to treat sick chickens; add 250mg/kg of sulfamethoxazole to the feed for 7 consecutive days to prevent healthy chickens.

④ Use sodium sulfate as an auxiliary treatment to quickly remove pus and blood in the intestine so that the anticoccidial drugs can be fully absorbed and exert their therapeutic effects. For every 1,000 chickens, add 500g of sodium sulfate to drinking water for 5 days. For severe cases, the disease can be administered orally twice.

Precautions for comprehensive prevention and control of chicken coccidiosis

When using drugs to prevent and treat coccidiosis in chickens, drug resistance and drug residue issues should be considered. It is recommended that farmers choose drugs according to their symptoms and use multiple anticoccidial drugs alternately. One drug can be used continuously for 5 to 7 days, and then changed to another drug after a few days. It is also possible to use one anticoccidial drug in the chick stage and another anticoccidial drug in the grower stage.

When treating chicken coccidiosis, you must not use one treatment method one day and another treatment plan tomorrow. It is recommended that no matter what treatment plan you choose, you must continue to use it without arbitrarily interrupting it to be effective. In addition, during drug treatment, the appropriate dosage should be accurately grasped. Using two or more drugs at the same time will affect the effects of each other, so the combination of drugs must be done under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Poor chicken farm conditions, excessive stocking density, poor air quality in the chicken house, high temperature and humidity, or nutritional imbalance in feed are the main causes of coccidiosis in chickens. Therefore, while conducting treatment, do not neglect the management of the house. For chicken farms where coccidiosis has already broken out, treatment is the main approach, with prevention as a supplement. Only by combining the two can we better and more effectively control chicken coccidiosis.

Finally, I would like to remind all chicken farmers that any treatment or prevention and control measures for chicken coccidiosis must be adapted to local conditions and combined with local actual conditions, and cannot be copied completely.
