What to do if your throat is dry, itchy and coughing after throat cancer surgery

Patients with laryngeal cancer generally choose surgery to treat the disease. We still need to do careful care after the operation. Patients with laryngeal cancer should keep their mouths clean and their airways open after the operation. The following experts will tell you what aspects of postoperative care for laryngeal cancer should be paid attention to.

1. Patients with pharyngeal cancer should be cared for by a dedicated person after general anesthesia, and their complexion, pulse, body temperature, respiration, blood pressure and other indicators should be closely monitored. After the patient wakes up from general anesthesia and the blood pressure stabilizes, the patient should be placed in a semi-recumbent position. Patients undergoing laryngoplasty should lie flat with their heads tilted forward to reduce the pressure on the anastomosis.

2. Keep the airway open. This is also something that patients with pharyngeal cancer need to pay attention to after surgery. When nursing, pay attention to sucking out the secretions in the trachea at any time. Morphine, codeine, atropine and other drugs that inhibit breathing and glandular secretion are prohibited. When nursing, strictly follow the aseptic technique to prevent bacterial infection of the tracheotomy anastomosis

3. Patients with pharyngeal cancer should keep their oral cavity clean after surgery. Oral care should be performed twice a day. Pay attention to the wound for exudate and prevent pharyngeal leakage at any time.

4. Nursing staff should teach patients how to handle the cannula. Patients who have undergone total laryngectomy must wear a cannula for 1 year to prevent stenosis.
