Causes of rectal cancer

Causes of rectal cancer

Now is an era of rapid development of information technology. However, with the accelerated pace of life, the incidence of rectal cancer among young people has increased in recent years. Many patients do not understand why they have this disease even in the late stage of the disease. So what are the typical causes of rectal cancer?

1. Fat, fiber and calories: The increase in fat consumption is parallel to the increase in the incidence of colorectal cancer. Direct measurement of dietary fat content shows that people who consume a high amount of fat have a high mortality rate from colorectal cancer.

2. Vitamins and minerals: Micronutrients and minerals with antioxidant effects have the ability to remove or neutralize the harmful effects of certain oxygen metabolites called oxygen free radicals and singlet oxygen. These metabolites are formed in the normal biochemical processes of the whole body, and they can be dangerous because they can damage DNA, lipid membranes and proteins. If this molecular level damage to cells is not suppressed, it will promote the formation of cancer. Several vitamins, minerals and trace elements have antioxidant effects.

3. Genetic factors: Heredity is an important factor in colorectal adenomatous polyps and colorectal cancer. Clinically, there are two types of patients with more prominent genetic factors, one is familial adenomatous polyposis, and the other is hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer, which includes site-specific colorectal cancer and cancer family syndrome.

4. Inflammatory colitis: Among the inflammatory colitis, three are most closely related to colorectal cancer. Chronic ulcerative colitis is recognized as a disease with a higher risk of cancer, but its risk of cancer is related to the duration of the disease and the location and extent of the lesion.

5. Colorectal adenoma: Colorectal adenoma is the most common polyp-like lesion in clinical practice, and about two-thirds of colorectal polyps are adenomas. In terms of histology, adenomas can be divided into three types: tubular, villous, and tubulovillous. Among them, tubular adenomas are the most common, while pure villous adenomas are relatively rare, accounting for only 5% of all adenomas.

6. Personal high-risk factors: Patients who have had colorectal cancer in the past are at a significantly higher risk of developing colorectal cancer again than normal people. Female patients who have had breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or cervical cancer are at a significantly higher risk of developing colorectal cancer than those without the above medical history.

From the above article, we can see that the causes of rectal cancer are much more complicated than everyone imagines. Experts hope that young people must pay attention to the health of their intestines. Once any intestinal disease occurs, it is best to cure it as soon as possible and prevent the disease from recurring, so as to reduce the risk of rectal cancer!
