Can colorectal cancer be cured by chemotherapy

Can colorectal cancer be cured by chemotherapy? Chemotherapy is a method of treating diseases with chemically synthesized drugs. Chemotherapy is currently one of the main means of treating tumors and certain autoimmune diseases. These special drugs can kill tumor cells and are sometimes called cytotoxic drugs. Surgery is still the first choice for Western medicine to treat colorectal cancer.

The biggest advantage of surgery is that it can quickly and easily remove the tumor, solving the body's current fatal injury. Surgical resection is extremely effective for local treatment, but it has no effect on systemic treatment and the improvement of the body's defense response. The advantage of chemotherapy is that it treats the whole body and has a strong killing power against cancer cells, whether it is primary, residual, diffuse or metastatic, it has a unique and rejuvenating effect.

Its disadvantage is that it has great toxic side effects and causes some degree of damage to the whole body. For early colorectal cancer, surgery should be the main treatment, and the effect is good. However, since colorectal cancer often has no obvious symptoms and lacks clinical characteristics in the early stage, most patients are already in the late stage when they are examined and discovered, which is beyond the scope of radical resection. Chemotherapy often makes patients unable to tolerate its side effects, and even makes the patient's quality of life worse.

Therefore, surgical resection combined with interventional therapy (a local treatment) has been welcomed by patients in recent years. Interventional therapy can overcome the drawbacks of traditional treatment. When interventional therapy is combined with surgery and radiotherapy, better results can be achieved.
