Important risk factors for lung cancer

More than 100 years ago, lung cancer was a rare tumor worldwide. Later, due to the prevalence of smoking, the incidence of lung cancer gradually increased. According to the 2012 China Cancer Annual Report, lung cancer ranked first among the five major cancers. Even in developed countries in Europe and the United States, lung cancer is a common malignant tumor. What are the risk factors for lung cancer? How can we avoid it to prevent the tragedy of lung cancer?

About 87% of lung cancer is related to smoking, including passive smoking. Studies have shown that the duration of smoking, the amount of smoking and the occurrence of lung cancer are positively correlated. Tobacco use is definitely the culprit for the increased incidence of lung cancer. To prevent lung cancer, the most urgent thing is to quit smoking.

Environmental factors Air and environmental pollution is another risk factor for lung cancer. The incidence of lung cancer in cities is significantly higher than in rural areas, because the harmful gases emitted by automobile exhaust and industrial processing in cities are more serious than in rural areas. In addition, garbage incineration, fuel and fumes used in cooking are also risk factors for lung cancer. It is recommended to use a well-ventilated kitchen for cooking.

Epidemiology of chronic lung disease shows that people with chronic lung diseases, such as chronic pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and secondary lung scarring from tuberculosis, have a significantly increased risk of developing lung cancer. Patients with long-term chronic lung diseases should not only effectively treat their lung diseases, but also undergo regular checkups to prevent lung cancer and ensure early diagnosis and treatment.

Occupational factors: Six percent of lung cancer is attributed to radon gas. In the past, the incidence and mortality of lung cancer among miners in Gejiu, Yunnan Province were the highest in the world. Through research on the working environment of mines, it was found that radon gas and arsenic dust in the working environment are important factors for the high incidence of lung cancer among miners. In addition, large amounts of inhaled radioactive substances such as radium and uranium, and long-term exposure to radioactive metal minerals and microwave radiation substances may induce lung cancer. In addition, occupational exposure to asbestos, coal tar, etc. can increase the risk of lung cancer.
