Gallbladder cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the gallbladder. If it is not treated in time, gallbladder cancer is prone to metastasis. But did you know? Experts point out that among patients with gallbladder cancer that has metastasized, about 25%-75% metastasize via the lymphatic system, and more than half of the cancers can directly infiltrate adjacent organs. The order of metastasis is liver, bile duct, pancreas, stomach, duodenum, omentum, colon and abdominal wall. About 1/5 (13%-19%) of patients metastasize via the blood. Let's take a look at the metastasis of gallbladder cancer. What is the pathogenesis of gallbladder cancer and its subsequent treatment? 1. Metastasis pathways of gallbladder cancer Gallbladder cancer develops and grows rapidly and is easy to spread early. There are three pathways of metastasis: lymphatic metastasis, hematogenous metastasis and direct infiltration. The most common routes of metastasis for gallbladder cancer are lymphatic metastasis and direct spread to the liver. When the cancer grows extensively beyond the mucosa, perineural and vascular metastasis may also occur. Gallbladder cancer can extend downward and cause bile duct obstruction. About 25% of gallbladder cancers spread to adjacent organs, including the stomach, duodenum, colon, and peritoneum. Distant hematogenous metastases often involve the lungs, bones, and kidneys. 2. Treatment of gallbladder cancer metastasis Clinically, the treatment of gallbladder cancer metastasis advocates systemic comprehensive treatment. For the primary lesion of gallbladder cancer, if the patient can tolerate surgery, palliative resection can be performed first, followed by chemoradiotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. Lesions metastasized to the liver can be removed at the same time as the primary lesion of gallbladder cancer. For patients with gallbladder cancer metastasis who have weak physical functions and cannot tolerate surgery, the clinical method of combined chemoradiotherapy + traditional Chinese medicine treatment is often used. Traditional Chinese medicine is the best method for treating advanced gallbladder cancer. It can be combined with advanced radiotherapy and chemotherapy, or it can simply treat advanced cases of gallbladder cancer in weak bodies, which is called conservative treatment. |
