Are there any sequelae after chemotherapy for brain cancer?

In recent years, the number of patients with brain tumors has continued to increase. When facing brain tumors, many people choose chemotherapy. Chemotherapy has always been considered a relatively effective method for treating brain tumors. However, chemotherapy uses cytotoxic drugs, which are harmful to our bodies, making many people unwilling to accept chemotherapy. Are there any sequelae after chemotherapy for brain cancer? The answer is yes.

(1) Radiation encephalopathy occurs 10 months to 7 years after radiotherapy. It manifests as memory loss, signs of cranial nerve damage, weakness on one side of the limbs, or accompanied by headaches, and even mental abnormalities such as multi-talk, dull expression, and incoherent speech.
(2) Radiation-induced spinal cord injury usually occurs about 3 months after the end of radiotherapy. In the early stage, the patient may feel an electric shock when lowering the head and radiate to the distal extremities, also known as Lhermitt's sign. In the late stage, the patient may suffer from transverse injury to the cervical spinal cord, which may manifest as weakness to complete paralysis of the limbs, and decreased pain and touch sensation. The temporomandibular joint and the surrounding masticatory muscles undergo degeneration, muscle atrophy and fibrosis after radiation. The symptoms are impaired temporomandibular joint movement and temporomandibular joint pain when opening the mouth. There is currently no satisfactory solution to this problem.
