Symptoms of gastric antral stromal tumors

Many people may not be so clear about the disease of gastric antral stromal tumor. In fact, if you suffer from this disease, the symptoms are usually quite obvious. Therefore, the most important thing for patients is to receive timely treatment, so that they will not have difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain and a series of other symptoms in their future life, and they can be cured at a faster speed.

The disease usually occurs in patients aged 50 to 70 years, and the clinical symptoms vary, ranging from no symptoms to nonspecific gastrointestinal discomfort, abdominal pain or palpable masses. Clinical manifestations are related to tumor size, location, relationship with the gastrointestinal wall, and benign or malignant nature. The following common symptoms may occur: difficulty swallowing, abdominal discomfort, eating obstruction, abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, etc.

Early detection of stromal tumors and early intervention treatment are particularly important. In terms of treatment, if the tumor is small and protrudes significantly from the mucosal surface, endoscopic tumor removal can be performed, which is less traumatic but carries the risk of perforation. Once perforation occurs, surgical intervention is required to repair it.

Surgical resection is the treatment of choice for stromal tumors. The main route of spread of stromal tumors is hematogenous metastasis, and lymph node metastasis is less common, so lymph node dissection is generally not required during surgery. These biological characteristics of stromal tumors enable the minimally invasive advantages of laparoscopic surgery to be fully demonstrated. Laparoscopic combined with electronic endoscopy for resection of stromal tumors has become the preferred surgical method.

Endoscope plays an important role in tumor localization and assisting operation in laparoscopic surgery. Double-mirror combined surgery is superior to traditional surgery in terms of safety and postoperative recovery, and has the advantages of less trauma, faster recovery, and shorter hospitalization time.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are mesenchymal tumors originating from the wall of the gastrointestinal tract. They are derived from the mesenchymal tissue of the digestive tract and are primitive mesenchymal stem cells with multidirectional differentiation potential and potentially malignant biological behaviors. They can occur in any part of the digestive tract, but most commonly occur in the stomach.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a diagnostic concept that has been gradually recognized with the development of pathological clinical technology. It is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the digestive tract. Histologically, it is rich in spindle cells, epithelial cells, and occasionally pleomorphic cells, which are arranged in bundles and diffusely and have the characteristics of non-directional differentiation. The risk stratification criteria for stromal tumors are based on tumor size and mitotic rate.
