What does placenta grade 3a mean

What does placenta grade 3a mean

The placenta does not remain static in a pregnant woman's body. It gradually develops and matures as the pregnant woman grows older. When pregnant women go to the hospital for a prenatal check-up, they can also ask the doctor to detect the maturity of their placenta, because placental development is closely related to the baby's nutritional supply. But what does it mean when the placenta test result shows placenta grade 3a?

Grade three placenta indicates that the placenta has matured. If the placenta is aged and calcified, it means that the placenta's oxygen supply capacity has decreased and its functions in all aspects will decline. At this time, you should pay attention to it. You should also pay attention to the amount of amniotic fluid in the late pregnancy. The mother should also pay attention to proper water supplementation and proper activities to facilitate normal delivery.

What is placental maturity?

The placenta will gradually mature as the pregnancy progresses. When it matures to a certain extent, its function will decline, just like aging, and it will not be able to provide nutrition and oxygen to the fetus normally. The placenta maturity grade is a standard used to measure the maturity of the placenta, which is usually divided into 4 levels, as follows:

There are four levels of placental maturity: 0, 1, 2, and 3.

Grade 0 indicates that the placenta is not yet mature: usually in the second trimester, around 12-28 weeks of pregnancy.

Level 1 marks the early stage of placental maturity: 30-32 weeks of pregnancy, the early stage of placental maturity, can also transmit nutrients to the fetus.

Level 2 indicates that the placenta is mature: generally after 36 weeks of pregnancy, the placenta is close to being mature.

Level 3 indicates that the placenta has aged. Due to calcification and cellulose deposition, the placenta's ability to transport oxygen and nutrients is reduced, and the fetus is in danger at any time.

The maturity of each person's placenta is different: mid-pregnancy (12-28 weeks) - placenta grade 0; late pregnancy (30-32 weeks) - placenta grade 1; after 36 weeks - placenta grade 2 (relatively mature). If a grade 3 placenta is found before 37 weeks and combined with the value of the biparietal diameter and the estimated fetal weight of 2500 grams, placental precocity should be considered and the patient should be alert to the possibility of intrauterine growth retardation. At 38 weeks, the placenta enters grade 3, indicating that the placenta is mature.
