Complications of metastatic bone cancer

Complications of metastatic bone cancer

Bone cancer, like other malignant tumors, can cause serious impacts on patients, which is closely related to both the tumor and the patient's own factors. In the late stage of bone tumors, due to the consumption of the tumor, the stimulation of toxins and the torture of pain, a series of systemic symptoms may appear, such as insomnia, irritability, loss of appetite, mental depression, pale complexion, progressive weight loss, anemia, cachexia, etc. Late-stage patients may also have some complications due to metastasis.

1. Metastasis of bone cancer in the late stage often leads to a significant increase in serum calcium concentration, resulting in calcium metabolism disorder, which is clinically known as hypercalcemia. In the early stage, patients may show fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weight loss, confusion or coma, etc. In severe cases, hypercalcemic crisis may occur, which is often manifested as dehydration, high fever, heart rhythm disorder, heart and kidney failure or death.

While actively treating the primary disease, you should also pay attention to a low-calcium diet and maintain a good mental outlook and psychological factors in order to achieve better results. This will avoid the occurrence of complications in the late stage of bone cancer!

2. Patients with advanced bone cancer are prone to metastasis and are relatively difficult to treat. Surgical resection is obviously not feasible for patients with advanced bone cancer, especially those with metastatic disease. It is not only traumatic and seriously affects the quality of life of patients with advanced bone cancer, but is also often accompanied by serious postoperative complications. Therefore, we must prevent complications of advanced bone cancer in advance.

In the late stage of bone cancer, metastasis will cause many symptoms, so while actively treating it, we should also pay attention to preventing other complications. Here we would like to remind patients that they should be cautious in the treatment of late stage bone cancer, because if they are not careful, they may cause complications of late stage bone cancer! The choice of treatment method for late stage bone cancer should be based on the patient's own immune tolerance and the different degrees of tumor development. Generally speaking, in the late stage of bone cancer, most of them have spread and metastasized, and surgery and radiotherapy and chemotherapy can no longer achieve the expected treatment effect.
