Cure rate of advanced ovarian cancer

Cure rate of advanced ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a disease with a very high mortality rate. If the treatment opportunity can be seized in the early stage, ovarian cancer can be completely cured. However, once the disease develops to the late stage, the cure rate of ovarian cancer is very slim. Therefore, after the late stage, ovarian cancer patients very much want to know how long they can live.

At present, the pathogenesis of ovarian cancer has not been elucidated, but smoking, occupational carcinogens, air pollution, ionizing radiation, and diet and nutrition lacking vitamin A are risk factors for ovarian cancer. In addition, viral infection, fungal toxins, tuberculosis scars, low immune function, endocrine disorders, and family inheritance also play a certain role in the occurrence of ovarian cancer. Due to the extremely hidden onset of ovarian cancer, diverse symptoms, and lack of specificity, the misdiagnosis rate of ovarian cancer is as high as 30%-40%.

What is the survival rate for advanced ovarian cancer? On average, for patients with various types of ovarian cancer at various stages, the chance of surviving for one year is only about 20%, and the five-year survival rate is about 6%.

For those who can undergo surgical removal, the five-year survival rate is 20%; for all stage Ia NSCLC patients who have undergone surgery, the five-year survival rate is about 80%; for stage Ib NSCLC patients, the five-year survival rate is about 60%; for stage II NSCLC patients who have undergone surgery, the five-year survival rate is 40%-50%; for stage IIIa NSCLC patients who are still able to undergo surgery, the five-year survival rate is 25%-30%, and for stage IIIb patients who cannot undergo surgery, the five-year survival rate is only 5%-17%; stage VI NSCLC is the most advanced stage of ovarian cancer, and chemotherapy is often used to relieve symptoms, with a one-year survival rate of 10%-35%, and an average five-year survival rate of 2%. Unfortunately, most patients with extensive lesions can only survive about 10-12 months after chemotherapy. If small cell ovarian cancer is not treated, the survival time is often only a few weeks.

Cancer patients should also avoid various traumas to inhibit tumor growth, as various traumas may induce white blood cells to promote tumor growth. A study published in the journal PLoS Biol in December 2010 showed that tumor cells recruit white blood cells through H2O2 to promote their growth; a 15-year study conducted by the Yale University School of Medicine found that the mixture of cancer cells and white blood cells led to the emergence of a metastatic cell that can, like white blood cells, pass through tissues, enter the circulatory system, and reach other organs.

What is the survival rate of advanced ovarian cancer? Experts explain that most advanced ovarian cancers are incurable, and generally only chemotherapy and targeted therapy are used. Chemotherapy can improve the quality of life of advanced patients and prolong their survival. If patients in this stage receive chemotherapy alone, the overall median survival time is 8-10 months, the 1-year survival rate is 30-40%, and the 2-year survival rate is 10-15%. If the patient has an EGFR sensitive mutation, about 50% of the patients can achieve a survival time of about 3 years after treatment. The median survival time of extensive small cell ovarian cancer is 9-11 months, and the 2-year survival rate after treatment is less than 5%.
