What are the examination methods for rectal cancer

What are the examination methods for rectal cancer

Rectal cancer is a disease that people often encounter in their daily lives. At the same time, this disease is not unfamiliar to everyone. This is mainly because this disease has caused significant impacts and harm to people's normal lives and bodies to a certain extent. Therefore, it is recommended that friends must learn more about this disease. Patients with the disease must undergo examinations, which is very important for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. So do you know what examinations are required for rectal cancer?

1. Ultrasound examination

Endorectal ultrasound imaging is a new diagnostic method aimed at detecting the external invasion of rectal cancer and the degree of tumor infiltration into the rectal wall. It has been used in clinical practice since 1983.

2. Magnetic resonance imaging

Some researchers claim that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is more meaningful than CT for the external invasion of rectal cancer. However, there are still many technical problems in MRI that need to be improved, and the understanding of the images provided by MRI needs to be further deepened. At the same time, compared with intracavitary ultrasound imaging, the high cost of MRI examination is also an obstacle to its widespread application.

3. CT diagnosis

CT cannot be used as an early diagnosis method, but CT is important for the staging of colon cancer, especially for patients who are estimated to be unable to undergo direct surgery but may be surgically removed after external radiation or local intracavitary radiotherapy. CT is of great significance for the surgical estimation of advanced rectal cancer and recurrent rectal cancer, and can directly observe the tumor invading the pelvic muscles (levator ani, obturator internus, coccyx, piriformis, gluteal muscles), bladder and prostate.

The above contents are some examinations that we have compiled for patients with rectal cancer. We hope that these contents can deepen your understanding of this disease. Of course, we also hope that you can actively cooperate with doctors for treatment while understanding it.
