Why do women get ovarian tumors

Why do women get ovarian tumors

Ovarian tumors are one of the most common tumors of the female reproductive organs, and their incidence rate ranks third after cervical cancer and uterine body cancer. However, deaths due to ovarian tumors account for the first place among all types of gynecological tumors, posing a serious threat to women's lives. Due to the complexity of the embryonic development, tissue anatomy and endocrine function of the ovaries, the tumors they suffer from may be benign or malignant. The risk factors for ovarian tumors are as follows:

(1) Early menarche and late menopause. Animal experiments have shown that the ovarian epithelium proliferates rapidly after ovulation and mitosis is active around the ovulation site. Reports have shown that the more ovulation cycles a woman has in her lifetime, the greater her risk of ovarian tumors. Therefore, early menarche and late menopause are one of the risk factors for ovarian tumors.

(2) Unmarried, childless, and not breastfeeding. Studies have shown that being unmarried and childless (infertility) is a high-risk factor for ovarian tumors. The risk of primary infertile women is 1.7 times higher than that of pregnant women. The longer the infertility period, the greater the risk. For women with infertility for more than 15 years, the risk of ovarian tumors is significantly increased. Pregnancy can reduce the risk of ovarian tumors. The more pregnancies and cumulative pregnancy months, the lower the risk of ovarian tumors. The first pregnancy has the strongest protective effect, reducing the risk of ovarian tumors by 40%. Miscarriage, stillbirth, and ectopic pregnancy can also reduce the risk of ovarian tumors.

(3) High-fat diet. High animal fat intake increases the risk of ovarian tumors. Drinking whole milk every day can also increase the risk of ovarian tumors. The more you drink, the greater the risk. Drinking skim milk reduces the risk.

(4) Family history of cancer. Ovarian tumors tend to cluster in families, and a family history of ovarian tumors is a risk factor. In addition, a family history of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and rectal cancer is also a risk factor.

(5) Exposure to talc and asbestos. Experimental studies have shown that talc and asbestos can migrate into the abdominal cavity, causing atypical hyperplasia of the ovarian epithelium, thereby increasing the risk of ovarian cancer. Foreign studies have found that the incidence of ovarian tumors in asbestos workers is higher than that of the general population.

(6) Exposure to benzene chemicals. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAA) such as dimethylbenzothiazide and benzophenone may have direct toxic effects on ovarian follicles and increase the risk of ovarian tumors. Women working in the paint industry have a higher risk of ovarian tumors than the general population.

Women with the above risk factors should take appropriate preventive measures, adjust their diet properly, avoid contact with talcum powder, asbestos, benzene and other chemical substances, and go to the hospital for regular check-ups for early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment. Taking appropriate contraceptive measures can also help prevent the occurrence of ovarian tumors. If you still have questions about ovarian tumors, please consult experts online.
