How long can you live if bile duct cancer recurs

How long can you live if bile duct cancer recurs? Whenever I see such a question, I feel particularly heavy. As we all know, life is extremely precious, and in fact everyone cherishes their own life. But when people are sick, the only thing they can do is to actively treat it and maintain a good attitude. Next, let's talk about how long you can live if bile duct cancer recurs.

Cholangiocarcinoma refers to a malignant tumor of the extrahepatic bile duct that originates from the confluence of the left and right hepatic ducts to the lower end of the common bile duct. The age of onset is mostly between 50 and 70 years old. Chronic inflammation of the bile duct and long-term chronic inflammatory stimulation from infectious factors are the basis for the occurrence of cholangiocarcinoma. Among malignant tumors of the gallbladder, gallbladder cancer ranks first, and others include sarcoma, carcinoid, primary malignant melanoma, giant cell adenocarcinoma, etc. Clinically, surgical treatment, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other methods can be used, but the prognosis is poor. Only surgeons with more mature surgical techniques can make radical surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma successful or reduce surgical complications.

The cancer is highly malignant and has a poor prognosis. Surgical radical resection is currently the only way to cure bile duct cancer. The five-year survival rate after radical resection of bile duct cancer is between 20% and 43%, and the survival rate after radical resection is basically similar regardless of the location of the disease. However, the vast majority of bile duct cancer patients who cannot be surgically removed often die within 1 year, and their prognosis is extremely poor. Biliary duct cancer surgery is relatively complex and difficult. Surgical radical resection is clearly related to the prognosis of the disease, so it is recommended that medical institutions with rich experience perform corresponding standardized radical surgery.

How long a patient with bile duct cancer can live generally depends on two conditions. One is the patient's physical and mental state in the late stage, and the other is whether the treatment method is appropriate. Late-stage treatment of bile duct cancer mainly includes palliative surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and traditional Chinese medicine. Comprehensive use of various treatment methods to improve the level of late-stage treatment to prolong the patient's survival, that is, live longer. Under the premise of ensuring a successful late-stage treatment, each bile duct cancer patient has individual differences. Those with good physical condition and good resistance may be able to survive with the tumor for a long time. On the contrary, those with poor immune function may only survive for a few months.

It can be seen from this that if bile duct cancer, a malignant tumor with a poor prognosis, recurs, the situation will definitely not be optimistic.
