How to care after pituitary tumor surgery

As for the patient's recovery effect, as the saying goes: 30% treatment, 70% nursing. This is enough to reflect the importance of nursing in the treatment process of patients. Therefore, nursing must be taken seriously during the treatment process of patients.

1. Bleeding care

Nurses should pay attention to changes in consciousness and pupils. Understand the bleeding during surgery, carefully observe the bleeding of wound dressings, and pay attention to changes in the patient's condition.

2. Care for cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea

Nurses should understand the situation during surgery and know whether there are potential factors that may cause rhinorrhea. Avoid forceful coughing and sneezing to prevent rhinorrhea.

Patients with rhinorrhoea should lie flat for 1-2 weeks as directed by the doctor. Patients should not block the nasal cavity with cotton balls or toilet paper, pick the nostrils with hands, or drop medicine into the nasal cavity to avoid infection.

3. Diabetes insipidus, water and electrolyte imbalance

Nurses should strictly record the hourly urine volume and intake. If the hourly urine volume is greater than 200-300ml, the doctor should be notified in time to use antidiuretics.

Assess the patient's fluid intake and output and adjust the infusion speed and volume appropriately.

Explain the reasons for frequent urination to the patient. Encourage the patient to eat appropriate foods high in potassium and sodium to supplement potassium and sodium ions.

Blood tests are done daily to check kidney function, and the amount of fluid and electrolytes is adjusted based on the results.

4. Hypopituitarism

Explain the situation to the patient and relieve his anxiety, which is conducive to recovery.

Symptoms such as vomiting, palpitations and fatigue should be differentiated from electrolyte imbalance.
