Pituitary tumor is a benign tumor that occurs on the pituitary gland. However, treatment of pituitary tumor requires surgery, drugs and radiotherapy to recover. Of course, after surgical treatment, some complications are inevitable, which makes people very painful. Therefore, patients should understand what complications there will be, know in advance, take precautions, and be mentally and physically prepared. So what are the complications after pituitary tumor surgery? 1. Nasal secretions: Nasal congestion often occurs within a few months after surgery, and a small amount of bloody secretions or cool liquids continue to flow out of the nasal cavity. Nasal drops can be dripped into the nasal cavity to reduce inflammation. Clean the nasal secretions 1 to 2 times in the ENT department 1 week after surgery. 2. Nasal bleeding: It usually occurs after the removal of the gauze strips used to pack the nasal cavity after surgery, or a few days later. In mild cases, temporary placement of cotton balls in the nasal cavity can be effective. In severe cases (several hundred milliliters of bleeding), angiography is required. 3. Headache: It may be caused by multiple factors such as nasal mucosal edema and sphenoid sinus inflammation. In severe cases, painkillers can be taken for symptomatic treatment. 4. Hypopituitarism: manifested as fever, general weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. Check blood cortisol and thyroid hormones. After the diagnosis is confirmed, use prednisone and thyroxine for treatment under the guidance of a doctor. 5. Hyponatremia: It usually occurs 4 to 8 days after surgery, and is manifested by low fever, weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and worsening of consciousness in severe cases. Blood tests show low chloride values. After the diagnosis is confirmed, hypertonic saline is infused and drinking water is restricted. 6. Spinal fluid rhinorrhea: Clear water flows continuously from the nasal cavity, which worsens when lowering the head, accompanied by headache and possible fever. Severe cases require surgical repair. 7. Diabetes insipidus: manifested by drinking more water and urinating more. More than 4000 ml a day. Control drinking water appropriately, record the amount of water and urine, take 0.05 mg (half a tablet) of Micogelin or 50 mg (2 tablets) of hydrochlorothiazide orally, 3 times a day, generally it will get better after 3 to 5 days. During the period of diabetes insipidus, you should drink more orange juice and high-salt food soup. The above are the complications that may occur after pituitary tumor surgery. Patients must pay attention. I wish you a speedy recovery. |
