Does a thyroid tumor grow quickly?

The thyroid gland is an organ located in the middle of the neck that resembles a butterfly. It is the "human engine" that controls the secretion of thyroid hormones. Over the years, thyroid diseases such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism have increasingly troubled the Chinese people, and the incidence of thyroid nodules and thyroid tumors has also increased year by year. Many patients will ask if thyroid tumors grow fast? In fact, thyroid tumors are a relatively "lazy" tumor, commonly known as "lazy cancer", which means that they occur and develop relatively slowly, and the survival rate is relatively high.

Data shows that in the past two years, the incidence of thyroid tumors has been increasing at a rate of 30%, ranking first in terms of growth rate. However, this does not mean that there are more factors that induce thyroid tumors, but it has a lot to do with the popularization of physical examinations. In the past, thyroid physical examinations were basically done by touching with hands, and it was difficult to find relatively small tumors. Now the popularity of thyroid ultrasound examinations has rapidly increased the detection rate of thyroid tumors.

Thyroid tumors are more common in young people, with a median age of onset in the 30s. The incidence of thyroid tumors in women in my country ranks fourth among all tumors, and in men it ranks about tenth; the incidence in women is 4 to 6 times that in men, which may be related to estrogen. The second is radiation. Studies have shown that if you have undergone radiotherapy in childhood and then develop thyroid nodules, you must pay great attention to it and follow up regularly to prevent malignant changes. However, it should be noted that the radiation levels of items such as televisions, mobile phones, and computers are relatively low, so you don't have to worry too much.

Thyroid tumors basically have no typical early symptoms, so regular physical examinations are still necessary for early detection. However, during follow-up, patients with thyroid nodules need to pay attention to the following changes: sudden enlargement of the tumor, enlargement of the cervical lymph nodes, and symptoms of tumor compression (such as invasion of the trachea, esophagus, and nerves), and the nature of the thyroid nodules must be checked.

Thyroid adenoma, nodular goiter, inflammatory goiter, etc. are all common benign thyroid tumors; thyroid adenoma is a malignant tumor, which is divided into 4 types. The most common are papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma, which account for 90% of the total thyroid adenoma. They are more effective when treated early and develop more slowly. They are also called indolent tumors. The other two types of thyroid adenoma are more malignant. The 5-year survival rate of medullary carcinoma is about 60%, and the duration from the onset of symptoms to death of undifferentiated carcinoma is usually no more than half a year.

Although thyroid adenoma is a disease with a relatively slow progression, it should still be taken seriously. After all, it is a tumor disease and poses a certain threat to life. In addition to actively cooperating with the doctor's treatment, you should also pay attention to prognosis and health care, and eat a reasonable diet in your life to reduce the possibility of worsening or recurrence of the disease.
