Can thyroid cancer be cured? Knowing these cancer common sense will make you no longer afraid

Most people are afraid when they hear about cancer, and they feel hopeless about it. In fact, not all cancers are fatal. For example, most thyroid cancer patients can recover, so this cancer is also called the happy cancer. Most thyroid cancer patients have a 10-year survival rate of more than 90% after surgery and radioactive iodine treatment. For young patients under 45 years old, the prognosis will be better and their lives will hardly be affected by thyroid cancer .

Treatment is mainly surgical resection

The main treatment for thyroid cancer is surgical resection, which involves complete removal of the patient's thyroid gland. A small number of patients with papillary thyroid cancer can only undergo single-lobectomy because the tumor is confined to the thyroid tissue, the tumor is small, and there is no local or distant metastasis. If the patient's thyroid cancer is well differentiated, after undergoing total thyroidectomy, radioactive iodine treatment will be used to remove the remaining thyroid or distant metastatic cells after the operation, which can effectively reduce the chance of recurrence. After total thyroidectomy, the patient must take thyroxine to inhibit thyroid stimulating hormone and avoid stimulation of follicular cells by thyroid stimulating hormone. For poorly differentiated and undifferentiated thyroid cancer, the prognosis is poor, and the cells respond poorly to radioactive iodine. Consider combining local radiotherapy or chemotherapy. For most thyroid cancer patients, the ten-year survival rate can reach more than 90%.

Most patients have a good prognosis

After the operation, except for a scar on the neck, the patient's appearance and life are exactly the same as ordinary people, so the patient does not need to worry too much about the impact of thyroid cancer on themselves. Most patients with thyroid cancer and their families have been in a stage of fear due to their lack of understanding of the disease. They are psychologically nervous and under excessive pressure, which is not good for recovery. Some patients can get rid of their panic after the doctor's explanation. Family members or friends should try not to tell the patient what he cannot eat or do, and should not scare the patient too much, because these attitudes will have a great negative impact on the patient's mood.
