Can thyroid cancer heal itself? What are the treatments for thyroid cancer?

Thyroid cancer cannot heal itself and is prone to lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis, which affects the survival period. This disease can be controlled through surgical treatment, TSH inhibitor treatment, iodine 131 treatment and other methods to improve the survival rate.

1. Surgical treatment

Differentiated or poorly differentiated thyroid cancer is mainly treated with surgery. The prognosis is good through surgical removal of local lesions, supplemented by radiotherapy and chemotherapy to eliminate residual cancer cells. However, undifferentiated cancer is more malignant and difficult to be completely removed by surgery, and the recurrence rate is high. It is mainly treated with a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and surgery should not be used as the primary treatment.

2. TSH inhibitor therapy

TSH is a thyroid hormone. On the one hand, it is affected by the release of thyroid-stimulating hormone secreted by the hypothalamus, and on the other hand, it is inhibited by the feedback of thyroid hormone secreted by the thyroid gland. TSH is considered to be closely related to the occurrence of thyroid cancer. Therefore, lowering TSH levels can also delay the development of the disease, and postoperative application can reduce the chance of thyroid cancer recurrence.

3. Iodine-131 treatment

Neck lesions can be removed surgically. If the lesions extend beyond the neck or are extensive, recurrence or metastasis is likely to occur after surgical removal. Iodine 131 treatment can be selected. This method is also used in combination with surgical treatment as an auxiliary treatment.
