What are thyroid follicles? What are the symptoms of thyroid follicles?

The shape of the thyroid follicle can change with the changes in thyroid function. It is the basic component and functional unit of the thyroid gland. For thyroid follicular lesions, we must first determine whether the lesion is benign or malignant. If it is a malignant lesion, it should be actively treated. Early and correct treatment can greatly increase its cure rate.

Whether the thyroid gland is normal is very important to human health. If there is a problem with the thyroid gland, it will cause abnormalities in the body's endocrine system, causing a series of symptoms. Many people are told that their thyroid follicles are diseased during thyroid examinations, which puzzles many patients. So, what are thyroid follicles?

1. Pathology

The so-called thyroid follicle is the basic component and functional unit of the thyroid gland. It varies in size, with a diameter of about 0.1-0.5 mm and an oval, round or irregular shape. The thyroid follicle contains colloid, and the follicular epithelial cells are normally cubic, but as the thyroid function changes, the follicular epithelial cells will also change. If the thyroid function is relatively active, the epithelial cells are columnar and the keratin in the cavity is reduced. When the thyroid function is hypothyroid, the cells may be flat.

2. Symptoms

There are two types of thyroid follicular lesions: benign and malignant. If the thyroid follicular lesions are malignant, most of them are caused by thyroid cancer. The patient will have an enlarged thyroid gland, accompanied by symptoms such as hoarseness and difficulty swallowing. In this case, the patient must undergo a detailed examination as soon as possible, and then choose surgical treatment or radiotherapy for treatment. If it is a benign thyroid follicle, the patient will have symptoms such as irritability, increased heart rate, polyphagia, weight loss, and bulging eyes.

3. Hazards

Clinically, most thyroid follicular lesions are not serious and are mostly benign lesions. As long as the patient does not experience symptoms such as memory loss, fatigue, and fear of cold, the results of thyroid function tests are normal. Basically, they are not serious and patients do not need to worry too much.

The most serious thyroid follicular lesion is follicular thyroid cancer, which is a malignant lesion that requires surgical treatment. However, follicular thyroid cancer is relatively safe compared to other tumors. It is less malignant and metastatic, and rarely metastasizes to the lymph nodes. Moreover, if it can be discovered and treated in time at the early stage, the cure rate is still very high.
