Is a head fracture serious?

When a head injury is caused by external force, it is necessary to receive treatment and improvement as soon as possible to avoid other complications. But is a head fracture serious? It depends on where the fracture occurs. Strictly speaking, it is still very serious and should be treated surgically immediately. Head surgery itself is relatively dangerous, so patients must strictly follow the doctor's requirements for care and have timely follow-up examinations.

Eating, drinking and resting

(1) Patients who are conscious after injury and have no indication for surgery should eat high-calorie, high-protein, high-vitamin, and easily digestible food to ensure adequate nutrient supply and promote injury repair. Patients in persistent coma should be fed nasogastric fluid for 24 hours after injury to ensure nutritional supply. When there is gastrointestinal bleeding, you should temporarily stop eating and can only eat after the bleeding stops. Also, avoid spicy food to avoid aggravating the gastrointestinal bleeding.

(2) When surgery is required to remove a hematoma or reduce a fracture, the patient should fast for 10 to 12 hours and refrain from drinking for 6 to 8 hours before surgery to prevent food reflux and aspiration after anesthesia. 2. Body position: Rest in bed with the head of the bed elevated 15 to 30 degrees to facilitate intracranial venous return. 3. Prevent falling out of bed: Patients with mental symptoms or agitation, whose consciousness and thinking are out of control of the brain, should be equipped with guardrails and limb restraints to prevent falling out of bed. Other situations should be reported to medical staff immediately for treatment.

Nursing

1. After thorough debridement and suturing, do not touch water to prevent infection. If there is no infection, the sutures can be removed after 4-10 days. Observe for 3-5 days after removal. Wash your hair only when the wound heals and scabs well. If your head itches due to not washing your hair, clean other parts with alcohol and cotton swabs;

2. Get a tetanus shot to prevent tetanus infection, especially if the injury is caused by metal or soiled instruments;

3. Change the dressing regularly and cover the wound with gauze;

4. Don't touch it with dirty hands. No big scar will be formed after surface suture. The scab will fall off naturally after healing. Don't peel it with your hands. Avoid sun exposure.

5. Do not eat irritating or spicy foods, do not drink alcohol, eat less or no fried and dry foods, eat more fruits (best eaten on an empty stomach), vegetables and other light and easily absorbed foods. You can eat tofu, cabbage, cauliflower, green beans, peanuts, jelly, green radish, white radish, bean sprouts, cucumber, yam, vermicelli, baotou cabbage, melon, yuba, beans, etc.

Foods suitable for wound healing: Zinc: Zinc deficiency can reduce the function of fibroblasts. Zinc is mainly found in foods such as fungus, kelp, pig skin, and pig's trotters. Fats: A lack of lipids can lead to impaired wound healing. Fish oil is rich in fatty acids, has anti-inflammatory effects, and is beneficial for wound healing. Glucose: Sugar is the main energy provider for the human body, and supplying adequate energy is essential for wound healing. During the wound healing period, you can eat more fruits rich in sugar, which can not only increase the sugar content but also provide sufficient vitamins. Protein: Increasing protein in the diet can promote wound healing and reduce the chance of infection. Lean meat and soy milk are good choices; Vitamin A: can promote wound healing. It is mainly found in foods such as fish oil, carrots, and tomatoes.
