Where are the pelvic floor muscles?

In daily life, people don’t pay much attention to their pelvic floor, and many people lack knowledge in this area. However, due to some disease factors, and after giving birth, women’s pelvic floor muscles will be damaged, so they are prone to many symptoms such as urinary incontinence and difficulty defecation. It seems that there are many ways to repair the pelvic floor muscles. So where exactly are the human pelvic floor muscles?

Where are the pelvic floor muscles?

The pelvic floor muscles refer to the group of muscles that close the pelvic floor. This muscle group is like a "hanging net". The urethra, bladder, vagina, uterus, rectum and other organs are tightly suspended by this "net", thus maintaining their normal position so that they can perform their functions. Once the elasticity of this "net" deteriorates and the "hanging force" is insufficient, the organs within the "net" will be unable to maintain their normal position, resulting in corresponding functional disorders such as urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, etc.

The pelvic floor muscles are the muscles that control the bladder, vagina, and colon sphincter. They are a mysterious muscle that is not easy to feel.

Why do pelvic floor muscle problems occur after childbirth?

It is understood that in the hospital's obstetrics and gynecology clinic, there are many women who consult doctors because of postpartum sexual disharmony. Some of these are caused by damage to the pelvic floor muscles.

During pregnancy, as the fetus develops, the uterus continues to grow, which will exert a certain amount of pressure on the mother's tissues and organs, which can easily cause certain damage, especially to the pelvic floor muscles. In addition, excessive pressure and traction during childbirth can also easily cause this muscle to become loose and weak.

What problems will occur with the pelvic floor muscles after childbirth?

If the pelvic floor muscles are not exercised regularly and are in a relaxed or abnormally tense state, the vaginal sensitivity will decrease, causing about 53% of women to have problems in their sexual life 8 weeks after delivery, and the quality of their sexual life will decrease.

In addition, about 70%-80% of new mothers after childbirth have mild urinary incontinence; for example, when they sneeze or cough, urine will leak out a little; in severe cases, they may also have fecal incontinence.

Therefore, pelvic floor rehabilitation training is required after delivery, whether it is a natural birth or a caesarean section.

When should pelvic floor muscle repair be performed after childbirth?

One year after delivery is suitable for pelvic floor muscle function repair. 1-2 weeks after delivery is the best time to do pelvic floor rehabilitation training at home. A pelvic floor function check should be done 42 days after delivery, and then targeted training should be carried out.
