What complications are likely to occur after liver cancer surgery? These complications after liver cancer surgery are very harmful

Currently, there are many ways to treat liver cancer, mainly including surgical resection, chemotherapy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine. Surgical resection has a good effect, can prolong the patient's life and has a low recurrence rate. However, it is normal to have some complications after liver cancer resection surgery.

What are the complications after liver cancer resection?

1. Heavy bleeding

80% of liver cancer surgery patients will experience bleeding symptoms, mainly due to the lack of complete hemostasis on the wound surface. The blood mainly comes from the small branches of the hepatic artery, and it is generally difficult to stop bleeding on its own. If the patient has coagulation dysfunction, it may be combined with liver cirrhosis resection or severe bleeding, diffuse oozing may occur.

2. Combined with cirrhosis

Most liver cancer patients will have symptoms of cirrhosis, hepatitis B, and particularly poor liver function. Some patients have abnormal cirrhosis. Although it is corrected through surgery, they may still experience acute liver failure after the operation, mainly manifested as jaundice, pulmonary edema, hepatic encephalopathy, cerebral edema, etc.

3. Hepatic Ascites

Ascites can also occur after liver cancer resection surgery, which is a common phenomenon. This is because the synthesis of albumin in the remaining liver tissue will be impaired after the liver is removed. On the other hand, it is caused by the dilution of plasma protein by a large amount of water. If ascites occurs, albumin or plasma should be injected into the body under the guidance of a doctor, and more diuretic foods should be eaten. This can increase the plasma colloidal osmotic pressure and better maintain the electrolyte balance in the body. In addition, patients may also have pleural effusion, mainly because the range of liver resection is relatively large, and the infiltration will increase. If the drainage is not smooth, effusion will naturally form. The treatment method is mainly to keep the drainage unobstructed after the operation, and to perform B-ultrasound for puncture drainage when necessary.

4. Gastrointestinal bleeding

After liver cancer resection surgery, gastrointestinal bleeding may occur. It is mainly caused by the rupture of esophageal varices due to portal hypertension in patients with cirrhosis, or ulcers in the gastric mucosa. The liver should become smaller after being removed, and the blood flow in the portal vein will be hindered to a certain extent. Temporary portal hypertension may occur, which is more likely to cause rupture and bleeding.

Kind tips

Complications that occur after liver cancer resection surgery are normal phenomena. Patients must learn to treat the disease correctly and actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment. Family members must provide good care, avoid excessive emotional excitement, and let patients build confidence that they can overcome the disease.
