What are the symptoms of rotavirus diarrhea

Rotavirus diarrhea is actually a disease with a relatively high risk factor. If the patient does not receive timely treatment after the onset of the disease, dehydration will cause serious consequences. Some patients may even lose their lives. Only by understanding the symptoms of rotavirus diarrhea can we better treat it.

1. Sudden fever: In the early stages of the disease, children often have symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection such as fever, cough, and tears. The body temperature is relatively high, generally 38℃-40℃. Some parents mistakenly think that their children have a cold. When you are unsure, do not give your child cold medicine easily. Observe the child's bowel movement first.

2. Watery diarrhea: Soon, the child began to have diarrhea, and would have loose stools more than ten times a day, or even more than twenty times. Most of the time, the diarrhea would come out with a "splash", almost jumping out of the anus. The diarrhea is mostly white rice soup-like or yellow-green egg drop-like watery stool with a foul odor, but does not contain blood or mucus, which is significantly different from ordinary diarrhea.

3. Vomiting and abdominal pain: The child vomits frequently, vomiting whatever he eats, and sometimes vomiting even if he does not eat anything. At first, he vomits clear water, and then vomits yellow bitter water. Diarrhea causes faster intestinal motility, which causes stomach pain in children. Older children will express it, but younger children can only express it by crying.

4. Long course of illness: generally lasts 3 to 9 days, with the diarrhea being most severe in the first 3 days.

Due to the severity of diarrhea, it is often accompanied by dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and increased release of toxic metabolites. If it is not treated in time or the method is incorrect, it can be very harmful. This may cause dehydration and serious complications (pneumonia, toxic myocarditis), or even death in children.
