How effective is knee replacement

When a knee disease occurs, if the condition is very serious, a knee replacement surgery will be performed. You should pay attention to many issues after the operation, because the knee joint has been replaced, so many problems will definitely occur. For example, the knee joint may not be as flexible as it should be during exercise, and the amount of exercise may need to be adjusted appropriately. It can't be too drastic, so what is the effect of knee replacement?

The main reason is the lack of correct understanding of knee replacement surgery, which causes many patients to delay treatment. "Many patients who come to see us have been suffering from pain for several years or even more than ten years. They have been taking medicine, acupuncture, and applying plasters, but they have tried everything but still have not been able to relieve the pain. Some have even developed severe knee valgus or genu valgus deformities and have had to undergo joint replacements in the end.

In response to the misunderstanding, Zhang Hua explained that the surgery is not to replace the entire joint, but to remove the damaged joint surface and then put a safe, wear-resistant metal sleeve on it. It is equivalent to replacing a "part" of the knee joint.

It is understood that the main purpose of knee replacement surgery is to relieve pain, correct deformity and restore the basic function of the joint. After the operation, as long as you follow the doctor's instructions and actively perform functional exercises, there will be no problem with normal walking and life in the future. Of course, "the knee joint still needs to be used sparingly." For example, after surgery, try to avoid frequent climbing up and down stairs and strenuous exercise; also, avoid trauma.

However, for knee joint diseases, early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment remain the eternal medical principles. In the field of arthritis diagnosis and treatment, the first step is to take some oral medications in the early stage; the second step: in the early and middle stages, you can inject some sodium hyaluronate and do some physical therapy; the third step: in the late middle stage, you can do arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery; the fourth step: when minimally invasive surgery cannot solve the problem and the joint has reached a very serious late stage, you can consider joint replacement.

Exercise after knee replacement surgery

3.1 Early Training Period

On the first day after surgery, when the patient's vital signs are stable and the pain is relieved, instruct the patient to actively perform dorsiflexion and extension of the ankle of the affected limb. This will contract the gastrocnemius muscle, promote venous return of the lower limbs, relieve pain, and prevent the formation of venous thrombosis in the lower limbs. This should be done once an hour for 3 to 5 minutes each time, while performing isometric contraction and relaxation exercises of the quadriceps femoris at the same time. Method: Ask the patient to contract forcefully to lift the patella and harden the muscles. Wait for a moment, then relax. Repeat this process once an hour for 3 to 5 minutes each time. This can contract the quadriceps, enhance blood circulation in the lower limbs, reduce swelling and relieve pain, and prevent muscle atrophy.

3.2. Sit-Stand Training Period

Passive exercise should be performed on the CPM machine starting from the second day after surgery. The operated limb should be placed on the CPM machine and fastened with a restraint belt. The thigh should be kept as close to the movable frame as possible to prevent the limb from leaving the machine support and failing to achieve the required amount of activity. During exercise, the negative pressure drainage tube should be clamped to prevent the negative pressure from causing the blood in the drainage tube to flow back. The CPM machine should be used from a small angle to a gradually increased angle so that the patient can tolerate the pain.
