How much can TSH be controlled by hemisection of thyroid cancer

The range of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) control in hemisection of thyroid cancer needs to be comprehensively judged by the doctor based on factors such as the stage and type of thyroid cancer, the patient's age and physical condition.

1. Early thyroid cancer: For patients with early thyroid cancer, if there is no distant organ metastasis, and the patient is older, has good cardiopulmonary function reserve, and has no serious complications after surgery, the TSH control range may be 5-10mIU/L. For these patients, it is usually not necessary to take levothyroxine sodium tablets after surgery;

2. Advanced thyroid cancer: If the patient is older, with severe cardiopulmonary insufficiency, poor cardiopulmonary reserve, or the tumor invades the trachea and esophagus, and the patient is older, then the TSH range needs to be appropriately controlled according to the patient's specific situation, which may be controlled at 0.1-0.5mIU/L. Some patients may also need to take levothyroxine sodium tablets after surgery to supplement thyroid hormones and reduce the chance of recurrence of thyroid cancer after surgery;

3. Advanced thyroid cancer: If the thyroid cancer patient is in the advanced stage and has metastasized to the lymph nodes, lungs or other organs, since the cancer cells of the advanced thyroid cancer patient have invaded other organs and the body condition is poor, radionuclide therapy is required after surgery to control the TSH level at around 0.1mIU/L. At the same time, levothyroxine sodium tablets should be taken to supplement thyroid hormones and improve the patient's clinical symptoms;

4. Residual lesions after surgery: If a thyroid cancer patient undergoes total thyroidectomy, there may be a small amount of residual lesions. After surgery, through TSH suppression, the residual lesions will gradually shrink, so the range of TSH control is related to the patient's condition.

It is recommended that thyroid cancer patients pay attention to rest after surgery, avoid staying up late, overwork, etc. At the same time, they should drink more water, eat fresh vegetables and fruits appropriately, and eat less spicy and irritating foods.
