Why do we need to do CT scan to exclude thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer awaiting investigation usually means that the patient is suspected of having thyroid cancer, but no pathological examination has been performed to confirm the diagnosis. At this time, a CT scan is mainly performed to rule out other diseases, such as lymph node metastasis, lung metastasis, etc.

1. Lymph node metastasis: If thyroid cancer has metastasized to the lymph nodes, it may cause a lump in the neck. CT scans can reveal enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, and the enlarged lymph nodes have unclear boundaries, irregular shapes, and abundant blood flow.

2. Lung metastasis: If thyroid cancer metastasizes to the lungs, it can also cause symptoms such as coughing and expectoration. CT scans can reveal space-occupying lesions in the lungs.

3. Bone metastasis: If thyroid cancer metastasizes to the bone, it may cause local pain symptoms. CT scans can reveal abnormal calcification foci on the bones.

4. Brain metastasis: If thyroid cancer metastasizes to the brain, it will cause symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting. CT examination can reveal abnormal space-occupying lesions in the brain.

In addition to the above situations, liver metastasis and other situations can also be considered. When thyroid cancer is to be screened, a CT scan is required to rule out other diseases. If thyroid cancer is confirmed, surgical treatment is required in a timely manner. After surgery, it is also necessary to use drugs such as levothyroxine sodium tablets for treatment under the guidance of a doctor according to the condition.
