Is it okay to not want to undergo surgery for thyroid cancer?

Is it okay to not want to undergo surgery for thyroid cancer?

If you do not want to undergo surgical treatment for thyroid cancer, you can undergo a full-body examination based on your condition to determine whether surgery is possible. At the same time, you can receive treatment through radioactive iodine therapy, thyroid-stimulating hormone suppression therapy, targeted drug therapy, etc.

1. General examination:

If the patient does not want to undergo surgery, radioactive iodine therapy can be used to kill the iodine in the thyroid tissue to achieve the therapeutic effect. Thyroid stimulating hormone suppression therapy can also be used to inhibit the secretion of thyroid hormones, thereby preventing the recurrence of thyroid cancer. Patients may also develop complications such as hypothyroidism and liver and kidney damage, which require appropriate medication for treatment according to the situation;

2. Local treatment:

1. Radioactive iodine therapy: Radioactive iodine is suitable for patients with mid- to late-stage thyroid cancer. It uses the beta rays released by iodine-131 to destroy the tissue structure of thyroid follicular epithelial cells and cancer cells, thereby achieving the purpose of treatment;

2. TSH suppression therapy: Use drugs such as levothyroxine sodium tablets to inhibit the secretion of thyroid stimulating hormone, reduce the level of thyroid hormone or maintain it within the normal range to achieve therapeutic effects;

3. Targeted drug therapy: Use multi-target drugs, such as vandetanib tablets, etc., which can be combined with sorafenib and other drugs for treatment;

4. Others: For patients with relapse or drug resistance, immunotherapy can be considered.

For high-risk thyroid cancer patients, even after complete removal of the thyroid cancer, radionuclide therapy is still required. They should also take medications such as levothyroxine sodium tablets for life to inhibit the secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone and prevent the growth of cancer cells. At the same time, they should regularly check their thyroid function and pay attention to adjusting the dosage of levothyroxine sodium tablets.
