What tests are done in the six-week follow-up after single thyroidectomy?

Six weeks after thyroid cancer resection, a follow-up examination is usually required, including thyroid function test, thyroid color Doppler ultrasound examination, cervical lymph node B-ultrasound examination, etc. If the patient has any discomfort, it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time.

1. Thyroid function test: Thyroid cancer is a common malignant tumor, which is mostly caused by genetic factors, or may be caused by excessive or insufficient iodine intake. After surgical resection of thyroid cancer, it may cause certain damage to the body. At this time, you need to go to the hospital for thyroid function tests six weeks after the operation, such as serum free triiodothyronine, serum free tetraiodothyronine, etc., to determine whether hypothyroidism occurs;

2. Thyroid color Doppler ultrasound examination: After surgical resection of thyroid cancer, thyroid color Doppler ultrasound examination is also required, mainly to understand the local recovery through color Doppler ultrasound examination. If there is no local hyperplasia or recurrence, no special treatment is required. However, if there is local hyperplasia or recurrence, further surgical resection is required for treatment;

3. Ultrasound examination of cervical lymph nodes: Since thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor, it will cause irritation of cervical lymph nodes during the onset of the disease, so an ultrasound examination of cervical lymph nodes is also required. If cervical lymph nodes are found to be enlarged or metastatic, further radiotherapy or chemotherapy will be required for auxiliary treatment;

4. Others: In addition to the above, pathological examination, radionuclide scanning and other examinations are also required according to the actual situation of the patient. If the result of pathological examination is positive, it indicates the possibility of recurrence.
