What to do if dumping syndrome occurs after gastric cancer surgery

Dumping syndrome refers to upper abdominal fullness, nausea and vomiting caused by the rapid digestion and absorption of food into the small intestine by pancreatic juice and bile after eating. Clinically, it mainly manifests as obvious hunger about 2 hours after a meal, accompanied by dizziness, fatigue, palpitations and shortness of breath.

1. Diet adjustment: Patients should avoid eating high-protein foods on an empty stomach, such as milk, eggs, lean meat, etc. At the same time, they should eat small and frequent meals, mainly low-fat and easily digestible foods, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and keep bowel movements smooth;

2. Drug treatment: You can take gastrointestinal motility drugs as prescribed by your doctor to promote intestinal peristalsis and improve symptoms. Commonly used drugs include mosapride tablets and itopride capsules. You can also use drugs that inhibit gastric acid secretion to relieve symptoms. Commonly used drugs include omeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets and rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated tablets.

3. Other methods: In daily life, we should pay attention to strengthening physical exercise, strengthening physical fitness and improving body immunity. Pay attention to the combination of work and rest, ensure adequate sleep time, and do not stay up late to avoid aggravating the condition. Usually, we can carry out appropriate outdoor activities and breathe fresh air to help the body recover to a healthy state.

If the above measures are ineffective or symptoms persist, you need to seek medical attention in time to identify the cause and actively adopt targeted treatment plans. For patients with recurrent and metastatic tumors, comprehensive anti-tumor treatment such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy should be carried out according to the specific situation.
