Is there any relationship between nasopharyngeal carcinoma and nasopharyngeal hypertrophy?

Turbinate hypertrophy generally refers to edema of the turbinate mucosa. If turbinate hypertrophy occurs, it is generally not closely related to nasopharyngeal carcinoma, because not only does turbinate hypertrophy not cause nasopharyngeal carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma also does not cause turbinate hypertrophy.

Turbinate hypertrophy is usually caused by long-term inflammatory stimulation of the nasal mucosa, which can cause congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa and block the nasal cavity, causing symptoms such as nasal congestion and runny nose. If the turbinate hypertrophy is more serious, it will not only aggravate the rhinitis, but also may cause symptoms such as stuffy ears and tinnitus. However, turbinate hypertrophy does not cause nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharyngeal mucosa, mainly in the pharyngeal recess. It may cause symptoms such as blood in the nasal mucus and tinnitus, but will not cause turbinate hypertrophy. If turbinate hypertrophy occurs, the doctor can guide the local use of glucocorticoid drugs and vasoconstrictors, such as mometasone furoate nasal spray, budesonide nasal spray, furosemide nasal drops, etc., to help shrink the turbinate. If the medication alone is not effective, surgical treatment can be adopted, such as inferior turbinate resection.

When nasal concha hypertrophy occurs, it is recommended to go to the ENT department of the hospital and cooperate with the doctor for examination and treatment to avoid worsening of the condition.
