What causes soft fibroma

Soft fibroma is a disease of hyperkeratosis of the epidermis and hyperplasia of the dermal connective tissue. The main clinical manifestation is multiple filamentous or pedicle-like growths. So, what causes soft fibroma?

1. Causes of disease

The cause is still unknown. Some people abroad believe that it is a skin sign of intestinal polyps. Gao Xuzhi (1994) investigated a large number of cases and found that the incidence of skin tags in patients with hypertriglyceridemia was significantly higher than that in patients with normal triglycerides. It is believed that skin tags may be a skin sign of hypertriglyceridemia.

2. Pathogenesis

The pathogenesis is still unclear. The tumor is composed of loose connective tissue, similar to the connective tissue of the papillary layer. There are many capillaries in it. There are 3 types according to tissue pathology.

1. Filiform type: epidermal hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and papilloma-like hyperplasia. There are a large number of dilated lymphatic vessels. Nevus cells can be seen in some cases (30%).

2. Pedunculated type: The epidermis is thin, the basal cells are flat and have darker pigments, and the dermis is sometimes very thin. The center is composed of mature fat cells.

3. The papular type shows hyperkeratosis of the epidermis, regular acanthosis, and occasional angular cysts.
