Symptoms of mid- and late-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma

What are the symptoms of mid-to-late stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

Nasal congestion is a common symptom in patients with mid-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Many early-stage patients will experience this phenomenon. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma often occurs in the anterior wall of the nasopharyngeal roof and is easy to invade the posterior nasal cavity. CT scans show that 40% of nasopharyngeal carcinomas invading the nasal cavity have nasal congestion, and 48% of nasopharyngeal carcinomas invading the nasal cavity have double vision. Because the malignant tumor invades the abducens nerve, it often causes double vision to the outside.

In the middle and late stages of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, due to the obvious symptoms of tumor invasion and metastasis, there is rhinitis, and oral symptoms may include retractile nasal discharge, nasal congestion, tinnitus, deafness, hearing loss, and headache, which are signals that the tumor has spread to the brain.

How to care after nasopharyngeal carcinoma surgery?

Oral function exercises should also be performed after surgery to promote the recovery of oral joints, or in daily life, regular visits to the hospital for checkups are also required to determine whether there are any residual cancer cells, and then appropriate treatments can be performed. Patients with nasopharyngeal cancer should use normal saline to clean their nasal cavity every day.

After nasopharyngeal cancer surgery, clean your mouth regularly to avoid infection.
