In a broad sense, ovarian cysts also fall into the category of ovarian tumors, so there is no difference between ovarian tumors and ovarian cysts. But in a narrow sense, ovarian cysts are generally benign lesions, and ovarian tumors can be benign or malignant lesions.

Do ovarian tumors require surgery?

The diameter of the ovarian cyst is less than 5 cm and there is no discomfort. The tumor markers CA125, CA199, CEA, and AFP are all within the normal range. For such patients, gynecological color Doppler ultrasound can be rechecked after menstruation, and then the next treatment can be decided based on the results of gynecological color Doppler ultrasound.

If the ovarian cyst is larger than 5 cm in diameter and persists after repeated gynecological ultrasound examination, surgical treatment is recommended. Surgical treatment options include laparoscopic and open surgery, including laparoscopic ovarian cyst excision, laparoscopic ipsilateral adnexectomy, open ovarian cyst excision, and open adnexectomy.
