Urine test epithelial cells high

Urine test epithelial cells high

Under normal circumstances, human urine contains a small amount of epithelial cells. However, if the content of epithelial cells in urine is relatively high, it generally indicates that the person is suffering from a disease and needs to be checked and treated in time. However, if there are no symptoms of discomfort in the body, you can observe it first and do not treat it. Pay more attention to rest, but you need to check urine routine regularly. Once you have any symptoms of discomfort, seek medical attention in time.

What is the cause of high epithelial cells in urine test?

Epithelial cells in urine can originate from many parts of the urinary system, such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Normally, a small amount of epithelial cells can be seen in the urine of both men and women. Most of these cells are squamous epithelial cells, while renal tubular and transitional epithelial cells are extremely rare. However, medical personnel can often see a large number of epithelial cells in urine when examining urine sediment using a urine sediment instrument or urine microscopy. Due to the differences in male and female organs, most of these situations occur in women, because women are often contaminated by vaginal secretions when sampling, resulting in an increase in urine epithelial cells, while the probability of male urine being contaminated is very low. Most of the so-called epithelial cells in female urine are squamous epithelial cells, which are vaginal exfoliated cells and are not true epithelial cells of the urinary tract system. So what should the examiner do if epithelial cells are found in urine test?

There are many types of urothelial cells, and they are concentrated in different parts of the urinary tract system, so the clinical significance of their detection in urine tests is also different.

Squamous epithelial cells, also known as squamous epithelial cells, are usually located on the surface of the urinary tract system. Therefore, when inflammation occurs in the urethra, squamous epithelial cells are the first to be affected and may appear in large numbers or fall off in pieces, accompanied by a large number of white blood cells.

Transitional epithelial cells are divided into three types: surface, middle, and basal transitional epithelial cells. The surface epithelial cells are also called large round epithelial cells. They are more common in the bladder in the urinary tract system and may appear in sheets when cystitis occurs. The middle epithelial cells are also called tail-shaped epithelial cells, which mostly come from the renal pelvis. They may appear in large numbers in pyelonephritis and be accompanied by white blood cells or bacteria. The bottom epithelial cells are common in the renal tubules. Together with the renal tubular epithelial cells, they are collectively called small round epithelial cells. They may appear in the case of renal tubular lesions. If they appear in piles, it indicates that the renal tubules have acute necrotic lesions. Examination of renal tubular epithelial cells in the urine of kidney transplant patients can also be used to detect whether a rejection reaction has occurred. If the recovery is good, the number will gradually decrease to normal. Otherwise, a rejection reaction may occur in large numbers, and even epithelial cell casts may appear.

Therefore, there are many reasons for the high number of cells on the urine test report, and they must be taken seriously. Most hospitals now use fully automatic urine sediment analyzers to examine urine, so when the instrument analysis indicates a large number of epithelial cells, the inspector must examine them under a microscope, classify them after eliminating interfering substances, and then indicate the type of epithelial cells or the difference between the microscopic examination and the instrument report on the test report.
