What does small cell lung cancer mean?

1. Small cell lung cancer is a pathological classification of lung cancer. Under a microscope, the tumor cells of small cell lung cancer are round or oval and small in size.

2. Small cell lung cancer tumor cells mainly occur in the middle part of the lungs, near the bronchi and mediastinum. When the tumor invades these parts, symptoms such as dyspnea and coughing will occur. Small cell lung cancer tumor cells are poorly differentiated and can rapidly proliferate and replicate in a short period of time. They are highly malignant and the disease progresses rapidly.

3. Most patients with small cell lung cancer have metastasized to the brain, liver, bones, kidneys and other important organs when they first visit a doctor. Small cell lung cancer cells also have neuroendocrine functions and can secrete chemicals such as serotonin, catecholamines, peptides, etc. The accumulation of these substances in the human body can cause metabolic dysfunction, skin flushing, wheezing, tachycardia and other discomforts.

4. Generally speaking, small cell lung cancer has already metastasized throughout the body during the first diagnosis, and surgical treatment is generally not recommended. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be used. After small cell lung cancer occurs, actively cooperating with doctors can delay the progression of the disease, prolong life, and improve the quality of life.
