The best time to treat rectal cancer

The best time for rectal cancer resection:

1. The best time for rectal cancer recovery surgery is 3 to 6 months, but if anastomotic leakage and re-stoma occur after surgery, it will take about 1 year before the recovery surgery is performed again.

2. At present, there are many clinical surgical methods for rectal cancer. Common surgical methods mainly include radical resection of rectal cancer and ileostomy. Stoma can effectively prevent the occurrence of postoperative anastomotic leakage. It is necessary to perform stoma first to prevent excessive local tension and observe the postoperative recovery. If the local recovery is good, a second operation can be considered in about 3 months, but if the local recovery is not good, conservative observation and treatment are required, and stoma recovery needs to be postponed.

3. If anastomotic leakage occurs after anal protection surgery for rectal cancer, transverse colostomy is required to control the anastomotic leakage. At this time, stoma recovery can only be performed about one year after stoma surgery. Before recovery, the patient should be evaluated for anastomotic inflammation, stenosis, pelvic metastasis, and distant metastasis.

4. After rectal cancer surgery, avoid wound infection and keep the wound clean and dry as much as possible. Try to start with liquid or semi-liquid food, and gradually transition to a normal diet as the condition continues to recover. You can also do appropriate activities according to your physical condition to promote gastrointestinal motility.
