Lung cancer is difficult to detect because patients do not feel symptoms in the early stages. The symptoms of lung cancer are related to the location of the growth when the lung cancer occurs. If the tumor grows in the bronchus, symptoms such as coughing, blood in sputum, and chest tightness may occur. If lung cancer occurs around the lungs, close to the pleura, it will cause early chest pain, chest tightness and other discomfort symptoms, but if lung cancer is in the substantial part of the lungs, far away from the bronchi and pulmonary pleura, symptoms often appear when the tumor metastasizes or is locally compressed, which arouses patients' vigilance and is often discovered late.

The clinical manifestations of lung cancer are closely related to the location, size, compression and invasion of adjacent organs, and metastasis of the cancer. Cancer grows in larger bronchi. Irritating coughs and cancer often increase, affecting bronchial drainage. Secondary lung infections may have purulent sputum. Another common symptom is bloody sputum, usually blood spots in sputum or intermittent small amounts of hemoptysis; some patients have bloody sputum even once or twice, which is also an important reference value for diagnosis. Some patients may experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, fever, chest pain and other symptoms due to greater bronchial obstruction caused by tumors.

Hoarseness is one of the most important early symptoms of lung cancer. Hoarseness usually occurs in pharyngitis, colds and acute bronchitis; thyroid surgery, pharyngeal surgery, and can also occur after improper voice, excessive talking, or even heavy smoking and drinking.
