Do patients with nasopharyngeal cancer often have fever? Why do they get nasopharyngeal cancer?

1. The main symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients include nasal manifestations: unilateral progressive nasal congestion, epistaxis, purulent or foul-smelling nasal discharge, olfactory impairment, etc. Repeated small amounts of blood in the nasal discharge can be an early symptom of malignant tumors in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It needs to be taken seriously and checked in the hospital in time. When the tumor is primary or invades the nasal cavity, examination can reveal a new growth with a rough, eroded, brittle surface and easy bleeding.

2. Malignant tumors of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are often accompanied by purulent sinusitis and the symptoms are masked. For sinusitis that does not heal for many years, regular check-ups in the hospital are also required.

3. Oral manifestations are more common in maxillary sinus tumors, including numbness, pain, looseness or even loss of upper teeth, and collapse of the hard palate.

Common symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer include nasal congestion, blood in mucus, stuffy ears, hearing loss, double vision and headaches. If not treated in time, it will lead to complete blockage of the nostrils, blood in the mucus may develop into dripping blood or bleeding from the mouth and nose, and complete loss of smell, which will cause irreversible damage to the body. In severe cases, it will lead to decreased vision or even blindness. When the tumor metastasizes to the liver, lungs, bones and other parts, it will lead to systemic failure and endanger life.

There are many factors that cause nasopharyngeal carcinoma, such as genetic factors. Viral infections, Epstein-Barr virus and coronavirus are also believed to be involved in the occurrence and development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Foods containing nitrite, a precursor of nitrosamines, such as dried fish and Guangdong cured meat, and certain trace elements such as nickel that exceed the standard in the environment may also induce nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
