Does nasopharyngeal cancer have symptoms such as cough?

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a common malignant tumor disease, which usually causes different symptoms to patients. So, is cough a symptom of nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

There are many symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer. The harm caused by nasopharyngeal cancer to patients mainly includes the following symptoms:

1. Mild cases may cause bloody nose, and severe cases may cause nose bleeding. Ulcers or cauliflower-shaped tumors are common symptoms on the surface of the tumor, while submucosal tumors rarely cause bloody nose.

2. Symptoms and signs of secretory otitis media appear: tinnitus, hearing loss, etc. In clinical practice, many nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients are discovered due to ear symptoms.

3. Symptoms of cranial nerve damage: During the process of nasopharyngeal carcinoma infiltrating into the periphery, the trigeminal nerve, abducens nerve, glossopharyngeal nerve, and hypoglossal nerve are more frequently affected, while the olfactory nerve, facial nerve, and auditory nerve are rarely affected.

4. Cervical lymph node metastasis: The enlarged lymph nodes in the neck are painless and hard. They are movable in the early stage, but become fixed by adhesion to the skin or deep tissues in the late stage.

5. Nasal symptoms: Primary cancer infiltration into the posterior nasal cavity can cause mechanical obstruction, and tumors located on the anterior wall of the nasopharyngeal roof are more likely to cause nasal congestion. Nasal congestion accounted for 15.9% of the initial symptoms and 48.0% at the time of diagnosis.

6. Facial numbness, swelling and even skin ulceration may occur. Different tumors may present deformities in different parts of the body, such as nasal tumors in the external nose, maxillary sinus tumors in the cheeks, ethmoid sinus tumors in the root of the nose and the inner corner of the eye, and frontal sinus tumors in the forehead.

It can be seen from this that the symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer do not include coughing. If coughing causes discomfort, the patient should go for a check-up as soon as possible to avoid causing certain impacts on physical health.
