Can nasopharyngeal cancer cause deafness

Can nasopharyngeal cancer cause deafness

Nasopharyngeal cancer may cause continuous deafness, mainly due to secretory otitis media caused by nasopharyngeal cancer affecting the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube. In addition, the Eustachian tube may be damaged after radiotherapy, which will also have a certain impact on the ears. Nasopharyngeal cancer may cause deafness, especially nasopharyngeal cancer. In the late stage, it will cause deafness or even persistent deafness in patients. The ear symptoms it brings to patients are also relatively serious. In the early stage, there may be hearing loss or tinnitus, and then deafness in the late stage. It is entirely possible for nasopharyngeal cancer to cause continuous deafness.

Will I have a runny nose in the early stages of nasopharyngeal cancer?

There is blood in the respired nasal discharge. In the early stage of nasopharyngeal cancer, there is less bleeding, but the nasal discharge has blood streaks or blood clots. The nasal symptoms are not obvious, such as nasal congestion and nose bleeding. If the tumor of nasopharyngeal cancer grows, it will block the posterior nostril and cause breathing difficulties. For symptoms of nasal congestion, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and take a biopsy for pathological examination. In the early stage of nasopharyngeal cancer, nose bleeding is the main symptom. In the early stage, nasal congestion, facial pain, headache, and tinnitus symptoms appear. As the nasopharyngeal cancer progresses, symptoms of nasal congestion and nasal ulcers appear.

Can CT scan detect nasopharyngeal cancer?

CT can detect nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which is mainly manifested by space-occupying lesions in the nasopharynx, but it cannot be confirmed that it is definitely cancerous tissue. Pathological examination is the gold standard for diagnosis. A part of the space-occupying tissue in the nasopharynx is taken through a nasopharyngeal endoscope and sent to the pathology department for examination. CT can detect nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but if nasopharyngeal carcinoma is in its early stage, it may not be visible with CT, and it cannot determine the severity of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. It is recommended that patients can do other examinations to rule out the possibility of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. If a sinus CT is done, it will help to make a preliminary judgment on the condition of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
