Occupational diseases of welders

1. Improve welding technology, welding process and materials

By improving welding technology, welding operations can be mechanized and automated, and people can be isolated from the welding environment, thus fundamentally eliminating the harm of electric welding to the human body. By improving the welding process, such as rationally designing the structure of the welding container and adopting new single-sided welding and double-sided forming processes, welders can avoid welding in containers with extremely poor ventilation, thereby greatly improving their working conditions; another example is the use of CO with on-site suppression technology for electric welding fume ion charging. Protecting the welding process can suppress 80% to 90% of welding smoke on the work surface, achieve on-site smoke purification, and reduce welding smoke pollution. Since most of the hazards caused by electric welding are related to the composition of the electrode coating, improving the electrode material and choosing non-toxic or low-toxic welding electrodes are also effective measures to reduce welding hazards.

2. Improve ventilation conditions in the workplace

Ventilation methods can be divided into natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation. Mechanical ventilation relies on the pressure generated by the fan to exchange air, and has better dust removal and detoxification effects. Therefore, mechanical ventilation measures must be taken when welding in a room with poor natural ventilation or in a closed container.

3. Strengthen personal protective measures

Strengthening personal protection can prevent the hazards of toxic gases and dust generated during welding. Operators must use appropriate protective glasses, masks, respirators, gloves, wear white protective clothing and insulated shoes, and must not wear short-sleeved clothes or roll up their sleeves. If working in a closed container with poor ventilation, they must also wear a protective helmet with air supply performance.

4. Strengthen labor protection publicity and education and on-site follow-up monitoring

Welding workers should receive necessary education on occupational safety and health to enhance their awareness of self-prevention and reduce the incidence of occupational diseases. At the same time, we should strengthen the monitoring of dust and toxic hazards in welding workplaces and the physical examination of welders to promptly discover and solve problems.
