What changes will occur in the body after pituitary tumor surgery

Pituitary tumor surgery may cause physical changes such as endocrine disorders. You need to pay special attention to various physical indicators after the surgery and seek medical attention in time if any abnormalities are found.

The pituitary gland is an important organ that regulates human hormones. Pituitary tumors may cause excessive or insufficient hormone secretion. Although surgery can remove the tumor, it may have a certain impact on pituitary function. After surgery, some patients may experience endocrine disorders, incomplete vision improvement, or other physical abnormalities.

Common changes after surgery include fluctuations in hormone levels. For example, a lack of certain hormones (such as cortisol and thyroid hormone) can cause fatigue, weight gain, or insomnia, while the effects of excess growth hormone may gradually lessen. At the same time, some people may experience postoperative diabetes insipidus (abnormally increased urine output and severe thirst), which is a common transient phenomenon after pituitary surgery, but most people recover over time. Patients with optic nerve compression may have improved vision after surgery, but if the damage is severe, the improvement will be limited.

It is recommended that patients have regular follow-up visits to monitor hormone levels after surgery, supplement necessary hormone medications as directed by the doctor, and maintain a regular work and rest schedule and avoid strenuous activities. If severe symptoms occur, such as persistent extreme thirst, large amounts of urination, or persistent blurred vision, go to the hospital immediately to seek professional help.
