Early symptoms of pituitary tumor

Early symptoms of pituitary tumor

In the early stages of a pituitary tumor, symptoms may include abnormal vision, headaches, and endocrine disorders. If you experience similar symptoms, you should seek medical attention promptly and seek professional diagnosis.

Pituitary tumors are tumors located in the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. They may secrete excessive hormones or compress nerve tissue, causing a variety of symptoms. Because they develop slowly and the early symptoms are often ignored, it is particularly important to understand the early manifestations.

Common early signs include: blurred vision, visual field defects, especially narrowing of the visual field on both sides of the eyes, which is caused by the tumor compressing the optic nerve; headaches are also common, often manifested as persistent or intermittent pain. Since the pituitary gland is responsible for regulating the secretion of multiple hormones, patients may also experience menstrual disorders, infertility, loss of libido and other symptoms. If it is a pituitary tumor with abnormal secretion function, it may also cause weight changes, abnormal enlargement of the hands and feet (acromegaly), and premature puberty or abnormal milk secretion.

Maintaining good living habits may help detect health abnormalities early. Regular comprehensive physical examinations, especially ophthalmology and endocrine examinations, can help detect potential problems early. If similar symptoms occur, you should give priority to visiting the neurology or endocrinology department of a general hospital to clarify the diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
