What are the symptoms of cutaneous fibroma

Dermatofibroma is characterized by the appearance of single or multiple small, firm nodules on the skin that are usually painless and tan or skin-colored. Dermatofibroma is a common benign skin tumor that is caused by the proliferation of fibrous tissue in the skin and may be related to minor trauma, insect bites, or chronic inflammation. Treatment includes observation, surgical excision, or laser therapy.

1. The typical symptom of dermatofibroma is the appearance of small hard nodules on the skin surface, usually between 0.5-1.5 cm in diameter. These nodules are mostly round or oval, with a smooth surface, hard texture, and no pain when pressed. The color is mostly tan or skin color, and a few may be red or dark brown. Nodules are common on the limbs, especially the lower limbs, but may also appear on the trunk or other parts.

2. The formation of skin fibroma may be related to minor trauma, such as friction, scratching or insect bites on the skin, which may cause local fibrous tissue to proliferate. Chronic inflammation may also be one of the causes, such as long-term skin infection or inflammatory stimulation leading to excessive proliferation of fibroblasts. Some patients may have a genetic tendency and have a similar medical history in their family.

3. For asymptomatic dermatofibroma, no special treatment is usually required, and regular observation is sufficient. If the nodules cause discomfort or affect the appearance, surgical removal can be chosen. Surgical methods include traditional excision, electrocautery or laser treatment. The specific plan should be determined according to the size and location of the nodules and the needs of the patient. Laser treatment is less invasive and has a faster recovery, but it may take multiple treatments to completely remove it.

4. To prevent the occurrence of skin fibroma, it is recommended to avoid unnecessary friction or damage to the skin, keep the skin clean, and deal with skin inflammation or infection in a timely manner. For nodules that have already formed, avoid frequent touching or stimulation to prevent enlargement or infection. If the nodules rapidly enlarge, change color, or become painful in a short period of time, you should seek medical attention in time to rule out malignant lesions.

Although most dermatofibromas are benign, if they change abnormally or affect your quality of life, it is recommended that you seek medical attention and choose the appropriate treatment. Regular observation and skin care can help prevent their occurrence or recurrence.
