Can a malignant hydatidiform mole kill someone?

Malignant hydatidiform mole is a highly malignant gestational trophoblastic tumor that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Treatments include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, with early diagnosis and intervention being key.

The causes of malignant hydatidiform mole are complex and may be related to genetic, environmental, physiological and pathological factors. Among genetic factors, certain gene mutations may increase the risk of disease; environmental factors such as high radiation exposure and chemical exposure may also induce the disease; among physiological factors, abnormal female hormone levels and immune dysfunction are potential causes; pathological factors include a history of hydatidiform mole or other gestational trophoblastic diseases.

Chemotherapy is the main treatment for malignant hydatidiform mole. Commonly used drugs include methotrexate, actinomycin D and etoposide, which can effectively kill tumor cells. Surgical treatment is usually used to remove diseased tissue in the uterus. Common surgical methods include hysterectomy, curettage and lesion resection. Radiotherapy is suitable for local control of tumors, especially in cases that are insensitive to chemotherapy or relapse.

Dietary conditioning also plays an auxiliary role in the treatment process. It is recommended to consume more foods rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, such as eggs, milk, green leafy vegetables and fruits, and avoid high-fat and high-sugar foods. Moderate exercise helps to strengthen the body. Low-intensity exercises such as walking, yoga and Tai Chi are recommended.

Early diagnosis and treatment of malignant hydatidiform mole are crucial, and regular physical examinations and timely medical treatment are the key to preventing and reducing mortality. Through comprehensive treatment and scientific management, most patients can achieve a good prognosis.
