How long is the rabies vaccine valid?

In life, if we are accidentally scratched or bitten by a dog, it is necessary to go to the hospital in time to get the rabies vaccine. Otherwise, it may cause some basic diseases, such as rabies, etc. However, when we inject the rabies vaccine, it is necessary to understand the validity period of the rabies vaccine clearly.

The rabies vaccine is effective for about six months . However, after we are injected with the rabies vaccine, our bodies will have some mild local and systemic reactions. Such conditions can be relieved by themselves, and there may be a rash occasionally. This is also normal. However, patients with more serious side effects such as immediate allergic reactions, neurogenic subcutaneous edema, urticaria, etc. can receive symptomatic treatment.

The immunity of human rabies vaccine is effective for 6 months after the production of antibodies. These 6 months mean that if you are bitten by a dog again within 6 months after the injection, you do not need to be vaccinated. If you are bitten by a healthy dog during the period of rabies vaccination or within 6 months after the production of anti-rabies antibodies through vaccination testing, you can immediately wash the wound thoroughly with plenty of soapy water without the need for vaccination. If you are bitten by a rabies dog or a suspected rabies dog, you should receive two shots of vaccine on days 0 and 7.

It can be divided into two types: one is post-bite prevention, and the other is no-bite prevention .

1. Prevention after bite (exposure). Anyone who is suspected of having been exposed to the rabies virus, such as being bitten or scratched (even if it is a minor scratch) by an animal (including seemingly healthy animals), or having their skin or mucous membranes licked by an animal, must be vaccinated with this vaccine. 2. No bite (pre-exposure) prevention. Workers who are at high risk of being bitten or have the opportunity to come into contact with the virus in the epidemic area, such as veterinarians, animal husbandry managers, livestock workers, slaughterers, rabies virus experimenters, vaccine manufacturers, medical staff of rabies patients, cave workers, as well as people who have frequent contact with other mammals, children in severely epidemic areas, postmen, and tourists to epidemic areas, should all be vaccinated with rabies vaccine.

We know that the rabies vaccine is valid for six months. Within this period, if you are bitten by a dog, you do not need to be vaccinated with rabies vaccine. However, after being vaccinated with rabies vaccine, it is still necessary to actively clean the wound and do a good job of care and prevention.
