Many people have heard the word corn in some health programs, so what is corn? Although the name is unfamiliar, corn is actually the general term for our common grains. There are many different opinions about what corn is in ancient times. Glutinous rice and barley are also called corn. Corn has high nutritional value, so it is trusted by many people. There are many foods made with corn, mostly used to make porridge. What is corn?

1. Generally refers to food. "Guan Zi·Qingzhong B": "Therefore, the five grains and rice are the lifeblood of the people; gold, knives and cloth are the currency of the people." "Mencius·Jin Xinxia": "There are taxes on cloth and silk, taxes on rice and rice, and taxes on labor." Song Zeng Gong's "Tang Lun": "After several years of operation, rice and rice were cheap, and a bucket cost only a few coins. Those who stayed at home had surplus savings, and those who traveled had surplus funds."

2. Xiaomi. Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty wrote in his poem Reminiscence of the Past: "Rice is fat and corn is white, and both public and private granaries are full." Li Shizhen of the Ming Dynasty wrote in Compendium of Materia Medica: "Corn is millet. [It has] a salty, slightly cold, and non-toxic smell."

3. One of the Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art. Calculation methods for grain trading in ancient times. "Sixth is Nine Numbers" in "Zhou Li·Di Guan·Bao Shi" Zheng Xuan of the Han Dynasty commented: "Nine numbers: square fields, millet, difference, less width, commercial work, equal distribution, equation, win and loss, side needs." Sun Yirang's commentary: "Millet, to prevent the change of exchange quality."

The above introduces what corn is, and it can also be said to be an introduction to the origin of corn. Millet contains a large amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. It also contains vitamin E and is a good food for strengthening the spleen and stomach. Moreover, corn has a therapeutic effect on diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and indigestion. Corn oil can lower cholesterol. Therefore, middle-aged and elderly people should add some corn to their diet. This can play a role in health preservation.
